Overview

The powerful tide of wage and hour class actions sweeping over California for several years has swept into the life science industry. Plaintiffs' lawyers have filed wage class actions against employers in the life science industry and announced their intent to continue to sue based on the exempt classification of industry employees, especially those who work in research and engineering positions. The interest arises as a result of the large amounts of money at stake in such litigation (due to high salaries of professional employees and long hours) and the risk of liability is high. In this session, Lynne Hermle, a leading class action litigator who specializes in wage and hour class actions, will provide an overview of significant wage claims many life science industry employers are now facing and likely to face in the future, traps inherent in the rules, and practical suggestions for avoiding liability for such claims.
